Students interested in business analytics careers should actively look for opportunities to learn from experienced professionals, such as participating in student organizations, attending job fairs, and making use of alumni networks.
Scheller alumni analytics professionals shared their wealth of expertise at a recent Graduate Business Analytics Club event at Tech. Shelton Blease, Vice President of Business Analytics at Vaco, and Rachel Wiseley (dual degree MBA/MSA ’16) discussed their journeys into and throughout this field with graduate students at Tech.
Hacklytics
Georgia Tech will experience its own starry night this week—not through Van Gogh but Hacklytics 2023, an innovative 36-hour student datathon hosted by Data Science at GT (DSGT). Hacklytics challenges participants to use data-driven solutions for real-world problems.
Hackathons may be the signature event for DSGT, but community projects and training bootcamps play an equally essential role in its mission. As an inclusive student-run club that partners with startup companies such as Scheller and CREATE-X to organize community projects that deliver tangible results and hands-on experience for its members, this is also vitally important to its mission.
Deep Learning Playground and BirdCLEF, two projects developed this year, offer interactive introductions to machine learning. Furnichanter integrates technology and interior design by allowing users to seamlessly search furniture images while creating customized pieces using advanced AI models;
DSGT recently joined forces with Atlanta Tech District (ATDC) FinTech Program and Worldpay US to host a FinTech Hackathon, featuring presentations from Michelangelo Ho, ATDC FinTech catalyst, and Ernie Buday, vice president of marketing strategy at Worldpay US. Intel provided compute resources through their Intel Developer Cloud, which offers AI development software tools on top of advanced hardware devices.
Community Projects
Data science is an intricate field, and students and researchers face various challenges when working within it. Aside from navigating machine learning models’ complexities, they must also consider ethical concerns when handling large volumes of information, not to mention constantly learning new skills to adapt to an ever-evolving landscape requiring close interdisciplinary cooperation and sufficient resources and support.
DSGT, the student-run club behind Hacklytics, provides community projects and training bootcamps designed to advance its members’ data science knowledge and experience. For instance, recently the club collaborated with Furnichanter on creating an application combining technology with interior design that will make finding furniture simpler; the project will later be commercialized by this company and sold commercially to end users.
Undergraduate Business Analytics Club (UBAC). UBAC was created by Caitlin Gorman and Bella Christman as a way for Scheller undergraduates to explore business analytics. Both co-founders are Georgia Tech MBA candidates who share a passion for analytics; they met during a Business Analytics Showcase last spring, recruiting fellow enthusiasts into joining them. As well as hosting events and workshops themselves, the club actively supports events organized by BAC, such as their Career Fair & Internship Expo on September 22nd.
Training Bootcamps

The Data Science and Analytics course spans seven months and introduces students to the fundamentals of data science, machine learning, Python programming, and data analytics. Additionally, this course features hands-on labs as well as an applicable course project that builds real-world skills, as well as helping prepare them for Microsoft’s Certified Power BI Data Analyst Associate Exam (PL-300).
As well as technical training, this program also offers career support and coaching services like resume assistance and technical interview training. In addition, this school offers its students an exclusive Slack channel where they can ask any questions they have or share work with instructors and fellow students.

Suitable for people who possess strong analytical thinking abilities, excellent communication skills, and the desire to tackle problems effectively; additionally, it gives students an exclusive opportunity to learn from world-class instructors.
Mentorship
Mentoring programs typically create natural enthusiasm among mentors and mentees; however, this doesn’t always translate to high participation rates. To increase participation rates further, educating participants about the advantages of mentorship is key; one way of doing this would be providing training programs aimed at both mentors and mentees alike; these should emphasize inclusivity and diversity so mentees feel at ease with their mentors.
UGA is an elite business school offering both undergraduate and graduate programs in business analytics. Their programs aim to equip their students with practical machine learning and data analysis skills that make them highly sought after by employers in today’s job market. Furthermore, their interdisciplinary and collaborative research-focused approaches make UGA an excellent option for anyone pursuing careers in analytics.
Due to the online nature of the degree program and a rigorous academic curriculum, students in this program need to master extensive amounts of math—specifically statistics and linear algebra. Due to being an advanced Master’s degree program, this requires 10 three-credit courses covering Analytics, Computation or business, as well as completing a 6-credit “Practicum” course; these must all be taken on top of core classes taught during classes such as General Assembly, Thinkful Hack Reactor Ironhack Bootcamps that provide one-on-one mentorship: General Assembly Thinkful Hack Reactor Ironhack provide invaluable one-on-one mentorship services as part of these bootcamps’ one-on-one mentorship programs, including General Assembly Thinkful Thinkful Hack Reactor Ironhack Bootcamps, which offer mentorship such as General Assembly Thinkful Hack Reactor Ironhack Bootcamps, among others.
